PayEvidence Indices

The labor market, indexed

Three citable series built on standard statistical designs — a PMI-style hiring diffusion, the pay-transparency share the EU directive is meant to move, and a composition-controlled stated-pay index. Every point is measured, versioned and reproducible; thin days publish as gaps, never as estimates.

HMI · Hiring Momentum Index

A PMI-style weekly diffusion across the tracked panel: the share of employers expanding their live openings versus contracting, 50 = neutral. Per-company relative movement, so panel growth itself cannot move the needle.

diffusion (50 = neutral)
Methodology

reporter_gate>= 5 live openings at both endpoints of a 7-day window
publish_gate>= 50 reporters per point
formula(% expanding + 0.5 x % unchanged) x 100

PTI · Pay Transparency Index

The share of measurable open roles whose employer states pay — overall and for EU-located roles. This is the series the EU Pay Transparency Directive is designed to move, measured daily rather than surveyed yearly.

52.8%

EU 44.9% · n=71,012
% of measurable open roles stating pay
Methodology
designdirect daily measurement over the deduplicated panel

SPI · Stated Pay Index

A Laspeyres fixed-basket index of employer-stated pay over job-family x country cells, weights frozen at the base period — composition drift cannot masquerade as wage movement.

Methodology
designLaspeyres fixed basket over job_family x country cells
base_periodfirst 5 qualifying days, cell medians and weights averaged (a cell needs >= 3 base-window days)
cell_gate>= 30 stated ranges per cell-day
publish_gate>= 10 common cells per point
weightsfrozen at base-period average stated-range counts; renormalized over the cells present on each day (coverage_pct reports the retained weight share)
notecomposition-controlled: panel growth cannot masquerade as pay movement
